Blaine L. Reininger
Blaine L. Reininger (Colorado, 1953) was het eerste bandlid van Tuxedomoon dat een eigen solo-album opnam, genaamd Broken Fingers. Hij werkte samen met gitarist Michael Belfer aan het album Night Air. Dit meesterlijke, deels instrumentele, album werd direct een commercieel succes toen het uitkwam in 1984.

Albums
Na vruchtbare samenwerkingen met Mikel Rouse en Vini Reilly van The Durutti Column produceerde hij het krachtige Live in Brussels gevolgd door een lange rij studioalbums waaronder Byzantium, Book of Hours, Songs from the Rain Palace en The More I Learn the Less I Know.
In 2017 schreef hij het studioalbum The Blue Sleep. Net als zijn eerdere projecten combineert The Blue Sleep vocale songs met atmosferische instrumentale tracks. Drie van die songs, namelijk Lost Ballroom, Jacob’s Ladder en Odi et Amo zijn geschreven voor de theaterproductie Caligula.

"These days the music plays me. The unifying principle behind the songs on Blue Sleep is the method of composition. I apply fine old aleatory techniques – John Cage, William Burroughs, Tristan Tzara – and filter these through my instinctive knowledge of melody and harmony. Lyrics are generated algorithmically (I work with programs which assemble phrases according to mathematical rules) and then edited by me, with phrases suggested by the random output. That’s pretty much my modus operandi in the 21st century."
